Missouri (MO) is also known as the Show-me State. The name Missouri comes after the Missouri Indian tribe. "Missouri" means "town of the large canoes.". The date of admission to the Union was on August 10, 1821 out of Missouri Territory (part). It is the 24th state to joining the other constituent entities. The motto of the state is: Salus populi suprema lex esto (The welfare of the people shall be the supreme law).

The total size of this US State is about 69,702 square miles. Therefore Missouri ranks in 21st place among all other US States in terms of land area. Actually 68,716 square miles are covered by land and 987 square miles are covered by water. The mean elevation is 800 feet. Missouri's highest point is Taum Sauk Mountain with a height of 1,772 feet. The lowest place is St. Francis River, which is 230 feet. Its geographic center can be found in Miller County, 20 miles southwest of Jefferson City. Missouri is bordered by the following states: Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee.
