Bhutan is often referred to as Kingdom of Bhutan or simply Bhutan. The locals also call the country Druk Gyalkhap or Druk Yul for short. Named after the Bhotia, the ethnic Tibetans who migrated from Tibet to Bhutan; Bod is the Tibetan name for their land; the Bhutanese name "Druk Yul" means "Land of the Thunder Dragon". The country's flag has the colors orange, yellow.

Bhutan has a total border length of 1,136 km and is bordered by the following 2 countries: China 477 km, India 659 km. The lowest point is Drangeme Chhu 97 m below sea level and the highest is Gangkar Puensum 7,570 m. Its mean elevation is about 2,220 m. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and can be found 27 28 N, 89 38 E.
Population and life in Bhutan
In July 2016 Bhutan had a population of 750,125people. In 2015, 38.6% of the population lived in cities. The annual growth rate of urbanization is 3.69%. The residents of the country are called Bhutanese (singular and plural). The Bhutanese population has a median age of 27.2 years. The median age for males in 2016 was 27.7 years, and 26.6 years for females. The estimated growth rate of the Bhutanese population in 2016 was 1.09%. Looking at life expectancy, the Bhutanese people live an average of 70.1 years (males 69.1 years, females 71.1 years). Statistically, Bhutanese women give birth to 1.93 children in their lifetime.

Only 76% (187,531) of the people living in Bhutan had full access to electricity in 2012 (rural population: 53%; urban population: 100%). Among those 39.8% (July 2015 est.) or 295000 Bhutaneses, had access to an internet connection.
