The history of US State of Georgia (GA)

Georgia (GA) is also known as the Peach State, Empire State of the South. The name Georgia is in honor of George II of England. The date of admission to the Union was on January 2, 1788 out of Crown Colony of Georgia. It is the 4th state to joining the other constituent entities. The motto of the state is: Wisdom, justice, and moderation.

The total size of this US State is about 59,425 square miles. Therefore Georgia ranks in 24th place among all other US States in terms of land area. Actually 57,501 square miles are covered by land and 1,924 square miles are covered by water. The mean elevation is 600 feet. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald with a height of 4,784 feet. The lowest place is Atlantic Ocean, which is below sea level. Its geographic center can be found in Twiggs County, 18 miles southeast of Macon. Georgia is bordered by the following states: Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee.

These businesses include The Coca-Cola Company, The Home Depot, Delta Air Lines and also some of cable television networks, such as the Turner Broadcasting System (CNN, TBS, TNT, Turner South, Cartoon Network), and The Weather Channel.

Due to the low company tax rates and the low cost of living, a number of companies have are based in the South. Now most Fortune 500 companies are based in this region. That is why the South has some of the lowest unemployment rates in the United States.
