New Mexico (NM) is also known as the Land of Enchantment (1999). The name New Mexico comes from Mexico, "place of Mexitli", which was an Aztec god or leader. The date of admission to the Union was on January 6, 1912 out of New Mexico Territory. It is the 47th state to joining the other constituent entities. The motto of the state is: Crescit eundo (It grows as it goes).

The total size of this US State is about 121,59 square miles. Therefore New Mexico ranks in 5th place among all other US States in terms of land area. Actually 121,297 square miles are covered by land and 293 square miles are covered by water. The mean elevation is 5,7 feet. New Mexico's highest point is Wheeler Peak with a height of 13,161 feet. The lowest place is Red Bluff Reservoir, which is 2.842 feet. Its geographic center can be found in Torrance County, 12 miles south-southwest of Willard. New Mexico is bordered by the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah.
