Maine (ME) is also known as the Pine Tree State. The name Maine is first used to distinguish the mainland from the offshore islands. It has been considered a compliment to Henrietta Maria, queen of Charles I of England. She was said to have owned the province of Mayne in France.. The date of admission to the Union was on March 15, 1820 out of Massachusetts (District of Maine). It is the 23rd state to joining the other constituent entities.
