New Jersey (NJ) is also known as the Garden State. The name New Jersey comes from the Channel Isle of Jersey. The date of admission to the Union was on December 18, 1787 out of Crown Colony of New Jersey. It is the 3rd state to joining the other constituent entities. The motto of the state is: Liberty and prosperity.

The total size of this US State is about 8,723 square miles. Therefore New Jersey ranks in 47th place among all other US States in terms of land area. Actually 7,354 square miles are covered by land and 1,369 square miles are covered by water. The mean elevation is 250 feet. New Jersey's highest point is High Point with a height of 1,803 feet. The lowest place is Atlantic Ocean, which is below sea level. Its geographic center can be found in Mercer County, 5 miles southeast of Trenton. New Jersey is bordered by the following states: Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania.

In 2015, 8,958,013 people lived in New Jersey. The majority of people do not live in the capital Trenton. They live in the largest city Newark. The residents are called New Jerseyite, New Jerseyan. New Jersey is the birthplace of these presidents: Grover Cleveland was born on March 18, 1837 in Caldwell (In office March 4, 1885 – March 4, 1889).
